As the name implies, CSWeather monitors The National Weather Service in the US or Environment Canada in Canada for the local weather forecast. The forecast is then scheduled to display on the selected devices and services, normally when songs are not playing.

Since RDS and other metadata displays are limited to 64 characters, CSWeather will parse the forecast to meet the character limitation.

EAS Alerts

CSWeather can also be linked to the serial connection on the Sage or Gorman-Redlich EAS units to monitor emergency alerts. Alert messages do not meet the 64 character restriction so the serial format is used as it has a consistent format that can be parsed to 64 characters. Great care is taken in parsing alerts to ensure the correct information is displayed.

Sample EAS message received as:

1The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Pickaway, OH beginning at 7:59 pm ending at 9:59 pm (PALM)

 Displayed as:

Flood Warning for Pickaway, OH from 7:59pm to 9:59pm

In some cases the number of locations in the event will exceed the 64 character limit. To avoid any confusion the message is altered to a generic message.

Received as:

1The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clark, OH, Greene, OH, Fayette, OH, and Madison, OH beginning at 7:00 pm and ending at 8:30 pm (PALM)

Displays as:

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for our listening area from 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Now Playing

In some cases, metadata is available from a web interface that may have the current on-air song or a play list for the entire day. To ensure as much now playing information is available to the listener or for reporting purposes Center Stage Supports a number of selected services such as NPR's Composer, Xpotential, BDS Nelson, etc. that supply current on-air info.

Since these may be used for specific day parts we can schedule CSWeather to only update during scheduled periods.

News

When linked to a news service such as Burli Newsroom or Wordpress the days new stories will be formatted for data casting devices with the new headline as the title, the reporter as the artist and the program as the album.
